The Long Way Home
Raised in Bowie, Maryland, in the heart of Prince George’s County, I fell in love with fashion as a language long before I understood it could become a life’s work. That love first took shape through Simply L3ve, my early independent label, where I designed collections that carried me from Washington, DC Fashion Week to New York Fashion Week and taught me what it meant to turn an idea into something people could see, wear, and remember. Years later, that same curiosity carried me across the Atlantic to Paris, where I lived for two years while earning my MBA in Fashion Management from the International Fashion Academy of Paris (IFA Paris), after receiving my B.A. in Fashion Merchandising from Howard University. Paris deepened everything. The architecture, the museums, the streets, the language, the quiet beauty of the Seine, and the culture of craftsmanship sharpened my eye and expanded my belief in what thoughtful design could become.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve worn many creative hats: Fashion Designer, Creative Arts High School Teacher, Sewing Instructor and Program Manager for a Private Sewing School, Full-Time Stylist at AKIRA, and Creative Director of my private clothing label, Michelle Charise. Each chapter added another layer to the way I create, from constructing garments by hand to understanding people, building confidence, creating memorable client experiences, and translating ideas into something tangible. Photography, videography, styling, education, and creative direction became extensions of the same instinct that began with that first collection. I have never been interested in simply making beautiful things. I love building the world around them.
Today, that world has a name: MAISENÉ, a fashion and lifestyle company where styling, custom design, tailoring, education, curated home products, and creative direction live under one roof. It feels less like a departure from everything that came before and more like the natural structure those years were quietly creating all along, laid piece by piece, skill by skill, experience by experience. Like anything meant to endure, MAISENÉ will continue to take shape through every client, every object, every lesson, and every idea added to its foundation. The goal is to create experiences, inspire confidence, honor craftsmanship, and build work with enough meaning, range, and longevity to be carried forward for generations to come.
